Accessibility Statement

This accessibility statement applies to the website of Kilmington Parish Council:

https://www.kilmingtonwiltshireparishcouncil.gov.uk/

Kilmington Parish Council is committed to ensuring its online information is accessible to as many people as possible. This includes meeting our duties under:

  • The Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018
  • The Equality Act 2010
  • WCAG 2.2 AA – the current UK Government accessibility standard for public‑sector websites

We also aim to meet our statutory transparency and good governance obligations by ensuring online information is accessible, understandable and available to all residents.

Using this website

You should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast and fonts
  • zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate most of the website using a keyboard
  • navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader, including JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver
  • read clearly structured page headings
  • access documents that meet current accessibility standards wherever possible

We also aim to use clear, simple language throughout the website.

How accessible is this website

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.2 AA standard, due to the non‑compliances listed below:

1. Older Documents (PDFs, Word files)

Some older documents are not fully accessible. This may be because:

  • They are scanned images
  • They are not tagged for screen readers
  • They were created before accessibility regulations applied

Under the accessibility regulations, we are not required to fix documents published before 23 September 2018 unless they are essential to providing services.

Any new documents we publish will meet WCAG 2.2 AA wherever possible.

2. Images

A small number of images may lack appropriate alternative text.
We are reviewing these and adding descriptions where required.

3. Embedded content

Content hosted by third parties may not fully meet WCAG standards.
We review alternatives where possible.

What we are doing to improve accessibility

We are committed to:

  • Reviewing all new content before publication
  • Ensuring documents are created using accessible templates
  • Replacing older documents over time where possible
  • Improving image descriptions and page structure
  • Maintaining compliance checks in line with our internal control framework

This work supports our Council’s broader compliance obligations, including statutory transparency requirements.
